Electrify Wagga Wagga!

Electrification In Progress!

At its 24 March 2025 council meeting, Wagga Wagga City Council received a community petition requesting that council change its planning policies to provide developers the option to not supply gas to new residential subdivisions. Current council planning rules require developers to connect all new homes to gas. Council voted to receive a further report investigating the matter by the June/July 2025 council meeting. Why is this important?

All-electric, gas-free homes and businesses are:

  • Good for the climate, as less energy is needed to heat and cool electric, efficient homes and businesses, reducing our reliance on polluting gas.
  • Good for our health, as electric appliances like stoves, heaters and cooktops don’t produce the harmful toxins and pollution that gas ones do
  • Cheaper to run, meaning lower energy bills, especially for renters and people on low incomes
