Ipswich Climate Action Group

The Ipswich Climate Action Group (ICAG) is a growing group of people deeply concerned about our future. We are committed to advocating for urgent climate action from all levels of government, Federal, State and local. We work to build community awareness for the need for urgent climate action through education and local activities, and we are forming partnerships between community and governments that will ensure a sustainable and liveable environment for future generations. One of our many activities includes working to win a Climate Compensation Fund so that big coal and gas companies pay their fair share for the costs of climate pollution. We're currently building a campaign in support of the Ipswich City Council passing a Polluter Pays motion and working to build support for the idea within our community.

Make Polluters Pay Central Queensland

Ahh, Queensland we all love living here, from our channel country, mountain rangers, rivers and coasts. We love it. Over the last few years we have seen more natural disasters continuing floodings up north, hundreds of thousands ofcattle dying from drownings and lack of food. Not only that, repeated flooding of remote and costal towns and cities and the forever costs and misery associated with that. Where and when will it stop? Most people, even in Central Queensland believe that Climate Change is the Cause but what is the the cause of Climate Change, you may ask? Well, it's Carbon dioxide (CO2), you know the gas that are the bubbles in beer, wine, soft drinks and in CO2 fire extinguishers). Once upon a time the Earth was in complete harmony with CO2. CO2 went into the air and was absorbed by plants which made sugars, carbohydrates and cellulose. It also gave us Oxygen to breath, all was good. Then in the start of the industrial revolution we started burning huge amounts of coal driving steam engines for power, soon later driving electrical power which we still do today. Most of you would have noticed (even in winter) that if we have cloud cover over night, the nights are warmer, The clouds trap the heat from the land and stops it going into space. The CO2 has the same effect, it forms a layer in the atmosphere and traps heat and stops it from going into space. So how do we stop this happening? The answer is we need to transition from burning fossil fuels be that Coal, gas, or transport fuels to renewable clean fuels. But in the meantime, who is going to pay for the damage being done, the floods, droughts and the destruction that is happening? In a way, we all have to pay in one way or the other. But, lets put the blame on the fossil fuel industries and the Governments that have let this happen. Though the question remains, who should pay for the damage being caused. Do you think that it is the Governments? That's you and me the "Tax payers". Or should the Fossil fuel industries pay? For decades and decades they have lobbied Governments to keep their industries alive with propaganda, bribes and political donations, It's time for us to rise up and say no more. How about we start at grassroots political levels, our Councils? Join us.

Cott for Climate Compensation

We're a community group advocating for a Climate Compensation Fund financed by big gas and coal companies. They should pay their fair share of the costs of their climate pollution - and to local councils which bear the brunt of climate disruption. We are petitioning Cottesloe Council to ask the federal government to put a tax on fossil fuel exports to finance a Climate Compensation Fund and use it to support councils in strengthening and repairing infrastructure undermined by climate disruption.
